We Generation-Yers are a complicated bunch filled with seeming inconsistencies and laden with contradictions. It is no loner a secret that Gen-Yers have interests that more often than not seem to contradict each other. We are the generation that wants it all the bad and the good, and we want it all to be great. We live in a society where the lines between good and bad have become blurred. What was once looked down upon, such as stupidity and vanity, is now being held to the greatest esteem on every television network broadcasting a reality TV show. And so we worry. We worry about a lot of things in our lives, most of which are a result of not fully understanding our situations.

When I started writing this post, I wanted to give you ways to stop worrying. Then I realized that worrying is awareness and we need to be aware. While you can worry yourself sick, literally, I think there also healthy ways of worrying and managing worry. There are different types of worry that we all experience. We worry about natural disasters. We worry about our health and the health of our family. We worry about money, safety, the past and the future.

Worries, doubts, and anxieties are a normal part of life. Constant worrying, negative thinking, and always expecting the worst can take a toll on your emotional and physical health. It can sap your emotional strength, leave you feeling restless and jumpy, cause insomnia, headaches, stomach problems, and muscle tension, and make it difficult to concentrate at work or school. You may take your negative feelings out on the people closest to you, self-medicate with alcohol or drugs, or try to distract yourself by zoning out in front of screens. Chronic worrying can also be a major symptom of Generalized Anxiety Disorder GAD , a common anxiety disorder that involves tension, nervousness, and a general feeling of unease that colors your whole life.
