The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear by Don Wood

5 Superbly Cute ?s

I loved this book so much, it was definitely one of my most favorites as a child :) I wanted it read to me over and over again. Being an adult now, I love that I can read all my favorites to my little niece and still appreciate them just as much as I did back then. I just loved the little Mouse so much! There is something so undeniably charming about it. Its a great read-aloud book, the narrator is always talking directly to the little mouse and the humor is just perfect! The Little Mouse, the Red Ripe Strawberry, and the Big Hungry Bear is an extremely adorable picture book, with very vivid bold colorful illustrations that really catches the eye.

Additional information

Throughout the book each of these reasons support the message of the story to its readers: don't let fear prevent you from doing or getting what you want. First, the narrator's point of view enables this story to be very funny, unique, and engaging. The reader becomes aware that the point of view is of a narrator based off the first page which reads, "Hello, little Mouse. What are you doing? You are going to pick that red, ripe strawberry? Furthermore, I feel as though it is the narrator who is putting fear in the little mouse. Thus, the message of the story is derived from the narrator.

Great to read aloud and fun to read again and again. Was there ever a bear? Is the narrator the bear? Are we bears? The kids get a kick out of it! I can read this book over and over again, and it still feels fresh and new with each re-reading. Such a clever plot.
