Sarah Kays powerful spoken word poetry performances have gone viral, with more than 10 million online views and thousands more in global live audiences. In her second single-poem volume, Kay takes readers along a lyrical road toward empowerment, exploring the promise and complicated reality of being a woman.

During her spoken word poetry performances, audiences around the world have responded strongly to Sarah Kays poem The Type. As Kay wrote in The Huffington Post: Much media attention has been paid to what it means to be a woman, but often the conversation focuses on what it means to be a woman in relation to others. I believe these relationships are important. I also think it is possible to define ourselves solely as individuals... We have the power to define ourselves: by telling our own stories, in our own words, with our own voices.

Never-before-published in book form, The Type is illustrated throughout and perfect for gift-giving.

The Type by Sarah Kay (Poem#24)

About a year later, the fine folks at TED must have had at least the third thought, too, for they invited her to perform and speak about her work at TED. Please enjoy. MP: How did it all begin, your life and living as a poet, and how did this most recent book come about? I need to publish the poem you did in your TED talk. Let me know how that can happen.

In her second single-poem volume, Kay takes readers along a lyrical road toward empowerment, exploring the promise and complicated reality of being a woman. I believe these relationships are important. I also think it is possible to define ourselves solely as individuals… We have the power to define ourselves: by telling our own stories, in our own words, with our own voices. With the honest and painful words by Sarah Kay bring us the realizations of how women are treated on every surface of the world. It brought us the definition that women wanted love too, they wanted to be appreciated not just because of their body that drives the force of lust and sex but also the love that they wanted to receive. With the compelling illustrations of the book, it gave us the glimpse of hope, salvage, sacrifice and deafening silence into our soul.
